Summer Chemistry

My wonderful summer is composited of two main... composites.
Registering patients in the hospital has fallen as my portion. It is (I feel bad saying it) entertaining. Recently I had a patient who came in with back pain due to body surfing - and, get this - it's a worker's comp claim. Another patient came in because he was bitten during a fight and the next patient says "I'm the guy who bit him." Of course, there are somberer situations. Patients who really are going through a miserable time. Just today I promised one patient I'd pray for him. He's sick and out of work and worried about his kids.
A lot of what I do is sit and answer questions.

Here are five things commonly said to me in the ER.
5. Can you call me a taxi?
4. Hello, Greeter. (my desk says greeter on it)
3. Are you related to Michael Phelps?
2. How much longer will it be before I go back?
And the number one question:
1. How do I get to Wendy's from here?

The second composite of my composite summer is much more fun.
*Hushed whisper* I do whatever I want.
It makes me feel a tiny bit guilty. I've clearly been in school too long. I'm not used to having days with nothing scheduled. I can sit on my front step and read yet another novel. I can take a walk around Mt. Adams in the happy summer air eating sherbet and then watch The Apple Dumpling Gang Rides Again with my roomie. I can sleep in and then go shopping for replacement sunglasses. No homework lurking heavily in my subconscious. Although I must have met my academize from all this education because I couldn't help but notice I used 'composite' as a verb, noun and adjective in this post.

There's just something about summer. It has this power of illusionment. It soaks into my soul and makes me believe everything is either perfect or will be in the end... which isn't really an illusion, I guess.
