My Surfing Discovery

MarieClare, a relationship and celebrity gossip magazine, recently published an interesting interview called Holy Sex: Dating the Evangelical Way (Don't ask me why the picture of the pope is there, I have no idea). Oddly enough, this article was published alongside their blog called, "Living Flirtatiously" and an article, "The Surprising Pill that Saved my Sex Life." Before any of you doubt my morals or intelligence, I'd like you to know this was my first visit to the MarieClare site. I found the interview while reading reviews of Kevin Roose's book The Unlikely Disciple: A Sinner's Semester at America's Holiest College (which I'm excited to read).

Quick update: Author Kevin Roose decided to take a break from attending Brown University and see what really goes on at an evangelical school, and write about it. He attended Liberty University, and the result is the aforementioned book.

When I first heard of The Unlikely Disciple, I was prepared for the book to be full of criticisms and misunderstandings of evangelical Christians. But here's a quote from an NPR article about Roose.

"Even though he's back at Brown, Roose still tries to pray every day. He says the act of prayer changes him, referring to the writings of Christian author Oswald Chambers."

Here's a link to Roose's website. The Liberty University student interviews are really interesting.

Squalor

I'm living in it.
And I will be.

I'm finishing up my *reverent whisper*
Portfolios.
Yes, plural.

I keep asking myself, how can one semester have so many loose ends?!

Then I'm going home for the weekend. Wedding. Mother's Day. Laundry.

Jaleesa and I will be moving on Tuesday -- before one, apparently. Anybody have a truck? Or van? Perhaps a rickshaw?
Megan will be joining us shortly thereafter.

And then they will both go to Ireland. They've promised to bring a leprechaun. Or a piece of the Blarney stone.
*Mental picture of Jaleesa being carted off to the Irish police station with pick in hand*

And I will go to Florida. Not quite as glamorous. But warmer. But until then I don't see how to escape the living in squalor.

Vaca!

My dear father and mother have made it a goal to take their children on a vacation each year. Yesterday as I was doing some mother-daughter shopping (online and over the phone, for a vacation house) I again felt child-like excitement welling up inside of me. The kind of excitement that makes me want to wear red and smile at everyone. The kind that makes me want to jump up and down and clap my hands like I'm three years old. The kind that makes me start picking out clothes and packing bags four weeks ahead of time like Rosie. The kind that makes me want to look at my old vacation pictures and laugh.
My family knows how to vacation. We know when to be bums and when to be crazy and when to eat and when to jump in the pool.

Here are some happy picture-memories of past vacationy times.

Us in 2005 posing for the camera! Clearly this is early in the day. The smiles look very genuine. Except Davy who thinks pictures are a waste of vacation time.
Yes, Rosie and Davy are adorable (aged 11 and 8 respectively).

A very sleepy Davy, not posing, just waiting for a ride at the airport. His favorite camouflage backpack died and is no longer with us.

Here we are in San Fransisco. *snort of laughter* The three tiny figures in the center are Rosie, Davy and me. We are saying, "Hurry up! The sun is in our eyes!"
The nearer figure is Miriam saying, "Stop squinting! I'm trying to take a picture."

Clearly, someone has scalped Eeyore.
Sorry, Rosie, but you're only just twelve in this picture. And you're so cutsie (begins to speak enthusiastic baby talk)!

Yeah. Those are four vaca pics that really make me smile.
Hopefully I'll have much many new pictures to upload come June!
*Claps hands in glee*
